In the early 1900’s, on Green Pond Lane, there was a small house where a few christians gathered to worship under the leadership of Reverend Willis Lee. Later on, they decided to build a church on property which was donated by a faithful member. During the 1920’s, the faithful few exhibited mustard seed faith and through continuous, fervent prayer were blessed to move from Green Pond Lane to a small hill on Cheron Road (Creative Way), Madison TN.

When Reverend Lee was no longer with us, God being so gracious, continued to bless Mt. Calvary Madison with many charismatic and dynamic pastors. 

In 1965, Reverend John W. Biggers was chosen as pastor. Under his leadership, the membership doubled. There were many baptisms, conversions and growth.

Following Reverend Biggers’ tenure, in 1981, God sent us a gifted young man by the name Pastor Willie B. Russell, Jr. He had a heart for God and God’s people. He soon began planting seeds and visioning prosperity for the promising multitude. Through his leadership, the church quadrupled. Ministries flourished and, after a short period of time, Mt. Calvary Madison became known as “The Thrill On The Hill”.

Ultimately, when we outgrew the capacity on Cheron Road, it was decided we had to expand with no definite plan, but “God had provided a ram in the bush”. A dedicated church member donated the land.

In 1993, we broke ground on our new church at 1238 Briarville Road.

 

In 1994, Pastor Russell led a congregational motorcade to our new location which was capped off by a spirit filled worship service. In four short years, the Lord decreed and declared that His church was “paid in full”.

Pastor Russell inspired others to work in the spirit of excellence using their God given gifts and talents. The church continued to grow and ministries tripled.

In 2005, the mantle as Associate Minister, was passed to Pastor Russell’s son, Bishop Sandy L. McClain.

In 2006, we celebrated some of the members that were instrumental in the growth of God’s church, those whom were dedicated and committed, for at least a quarter century, to the furtherance of the gospel.

 

During the year, after twenty-five years of service, Pastor Willie B. Russell, Jr., officially announced his retirement.

Later in the year, God sent us a pastor who could further carry the vision.

Bishop McClain being concerned about individuals and their growth with the Lord continued to be passionate in helping people build an intimate relationship with Him. The Lord grew the church tremendously and over a thousand souls were saved.

He reaches millions of people by way of radio, television and live stream. To accommodate the growth, the Lord led the church to add a second service and an additional bible study. One year later, Mt. Calvary Madison started a Tuesday night bible study in Gallatin, TN.

In 2011, as Mt. Calvary Madison continued to grow, we broke ground on our new multimillion-dollar family life center which includes a prayer room, exercise room, indoor track, media area and basketball court which is now being converted into pickleball courts.

In 2013, as we continued to celebrate our centennial year, the congregation of Mt. Calvary Madison dedicated our new multimillion-dollar family life center to the Lord.

In 2022, the Lord allowed us to launch an unprecedented community doggy park with separate zones for small and large breeds. It is equipped with rest areas and waste stations.

In 2024, the Lord proclaimed yet another victory for His believers, the family life center was declared “paid in full”.

In the near future, we are looking forward to breaking ground on our new multimillion-dollar house of God.

We thank God for every door He has opened, every mountain He has brought us over, every valley He has carried us through and every blessing He has placed along the journey. We are here today not because we have been so good, but because God has been so faithful.
